Construction Project Engineer

Location: Lacey, WA

Work arrangement: Full-time, in-office position with periodic project travel; remote and hybrid work are not available

Compensation: Hourly; rate based on experience

I-5 Design Build is an integrated design-build firm with more than 40 years of experience creating casino, hospitality, entertainment, food and beverage, and high-end commercial environments. Our architecture, design, fabrication, construction, and installation teams work together from our Lacey headquarters to make decisions quickly and deliver complex projects on demanding schedules.

The Construction Project Engineer functions as an Assistant Project Manager, providing the technical coordination and documentation that keeps projects moving. Working directly under a Project Manager, you will help organize the day-to-day details of design-build projects from preconstruction and mobilization through fabrication, installation, and closeout.

This is a technical, office-based role; not a client-facing sales position and not a position with independent budget authority or direct reports. You should be comfortable opening a drawing set, understanding the construction scope, issuing documents for bid, coordinating RFIs and submittals, and following through on project needs without waiting to be reminded. Periodic travel may be required for site surveys, project visits, or field verification.

Key Responsibilities

• Process and track RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, and related approvals
• Maintain drawing logs, current construction sets, and project records in Procore
• Review architectural and construction drawings to understand and communicate scope
• Send drawings and project information to subcontractors and vendors for pricing
• Assist with subcontractor coordination, scopes, bid comparisons, purchase orders, and change documentation
• Track materials, long-lead items, deliveries, milestones, and action items
• Support the Project Manager with schedules, look-aheads, and progress tracking
• Prepare meeting notes and follow up on assigned tasks
• Support permitting, inspections, punch lists, warranties, and closeout records
• Coordinate technical information with office, fabrication, and field teams
• Visit project sites periodically to document conditions, progress, or quality

Required Qualifications

• At least two years of relevant construction project engineering, project coordination, architecture, or related experience; a relevant construction-management or engineering degree may be considered in place of some professional experience.
• Ability to read and interpret architectural and construction drawings and specifications
• Experience processing or coordinating RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, and change documentation
• Working knowledge of Procore or comparable construction project-management software
• Proficiency with Bluebeam or a comparable document-review platform
• Strong written communication and document-control skills
• High level of organization, accuracy, and follow-through
• Ability to manage changing priorities and support multiple fast-moving projects
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel periodically
• Ability to work full-time from the Lacey office

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with casino, hospitality, tenant-improvement, or occupied-facility construction
• Familiarity with millwork, custom casework, specialty interiors, or fabrication
• Experience creating or updating schedules in Microsoft Project
• Familiarity with Revit and the ability to navigate architectural models
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification

Pay And Benefits

• Full-time, W-2 employment.
• Pay:  $36 - $44 per hour, depending on experience
